You will be picked early in the morning from your beach hotel in Diani or Mombasa or bamburi for the 8 days safari. Drive to Tsavo East national park which is about 110km from Mombasa. What to expect on the way. You will enter the park via Bachuma gate. Your drive through Mombasa city which is the second largest city in Kenya after the capital, Nairobi. The city is rich in history, being one of the oldest towns in East Africa. You will leave the busy city and join the Mombasa-Nairobi highway passing many villages before arriving at the park. After entry formalities you will commence your game drive en route to the accommodation of choice. Possible animals to be spotted in Tsavo east As you drive in the park you will have a chance of seeing lots of animals; zebra’s, elephants different species of antelopes, lions, buffalo’s, leopard, giraffe and also a variety of bird species. Once you are out of the park drive approximately 1 hr to Taita hills sanctuary entrance -A drive that will take you through breath taking views of Taita hills on the horizon. You will arrive at Saltlick lodge or Lionsbluff. After lunch afternoon game drive in Taita hills, located at the foot of Taita hills as well as game drive at Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary. Both lie at the heart of the Tsavo ecosystem comprising Tsavo East, West and the Taita Game Sanctuary. Taita hills and Lumo Sanctuary The area is a vital wildlife corridor for the animals of Tsavo East and West, an ancient elephant migratory route and an important breeding site for lions. It is home to abundant and diverse wildlife species, spectacular landscapes, and enjoys the rich cultural heritage of the Taita people.

The little known 125,000 acre Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary is situated between the Taita hills Sanctuary and Tsavo west , only 50 km from Voi on the Taveta road. Three group ranches joined together to form the Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary as a way to use natural resources on their land. By investing the earnings from tourist activities, the community plays an integral role in conserving the biodiversity of the area by fighting poaching and the bush meat trade and creating awareness of the invaluable wildlife therein. After lunch you will have your afternoon game drive in the game samburu reserve until sunset. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Samburu camp. Samburu National Reserve The 165 sq. km reserve is rich in wildlife with fame for abundance in rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx (Also referred as Samburu Special).

The reserve is also popular with a minimum of 900 elephants. Large predators such as the Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are an important attraction (Kamunyak the Miracle Lioness that adapted the baby Oryx is a resident in the reserve). Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area.

Bird-life is abundant with over 450 species recorded. Birds of the arid northern bush country are augmented by several riverine forest species. Lesser Kestrel and the Taita Falcon are species of global conservation concern and they both utilize the samburu reserve. ANIMALS TO BE SPOTTED Five species categorized as vulnerable have recorded in the reserve. These are African Darter, Great Egret, White-headed Vulture, Martial Eagle and the Yellow-billed Ox-pecker. Critically endangered species under CITES – Pancake tortoise ( malacochersus tornieri ) is found in the samburu reserve.

Embark to the evening game drive. Meru National Park Meru National Park is wild and beautiful. Straddling the equator and bisected by 13 rivers and numerous mountain-fed streams, it is an especially beautiful area of Kenya. Attractions of Meru national park It has diverse scenery from woodlands at 3,400ft (1,036m) on the slopes of Nyambeni Mountain Range, north east of Mt. Kenya, to wide open plains with meandering riverbanks dotted with doum palms.

Wildlife of Meru Game to view includes: lion, elephant, cheetah, leopard black rhino, zebra, gazelle, oryx and some of the rarer antelope, Lesser Kudu and duiker, also the more common Dik Dik, one of Africa’s smallest antelope. Large prides of lion can be seen and some of Kenya’s largest herds of buffalo. The rivers abound with hippo and crocodile, fishing for barbus and catfish is permitted at camp sites and along the Tana River. In the mid 1980’s, the Park suffered from poaching, however KWS armed wildlife security patrols have driven out the poachers and the elephant population has stabilized with breeding herds settling down. Birds Over 300 species of birds have been recorded, including: Red-necked falcon, Heuglins courser, brown-backed woodpecker, sunbirds Peter’s Finfoot, inhabiting the Murera and Ura Rivers; Pel’s Fishing Owl, kingfishers, rollers, bee-eaters, starlings and weavers Return at around 1800hours for dinner and overnight stay at iKWETA Safari Camp
